BC Must Do Better: Recovery, Not Abandonment

In British Columbia today, more than seven people die every single day from drug overdoses. Behind each of those numbers is a name, a family, a future that will never be lived. And yet, despite billions spent, the government continues to double down on a failed strategy of decriminalization and so-called “safe supply,” with little to no pathway toward real recovery.

We believe British Columbia must do better—because every life matters.

It’s Time for a New Approach

British Columbia needs a plan that finally puts people (not policy experiments) at the heart of drug strategy. It’s time to reject the current system that enables addiction without offering hope. Instead, we need to focus on what should have always been the goal: helping people overcome addiction and reclaim their lives.

We support:

  • Ending taxpayer-funded drug distribution that floods communities with addictive substances.
  • Investing in treatment and detox services, so that people who are ready to get clean actually have somewhere to go.
  • Creating a full continuum of care—from intervention and stabilization to recovery housing and long-term support.
  • Partnering with families and communities who have been shut out of the process for too long.

This is not a punitive plan—it is a hopeful one. It is about saying: “We won’t give up on you.”

Every Life Deserves a Second Chance

We don’t believe it’s compassionate to hand someone a drug and walk away. We don’t believe it’s progressive to decriminalize chaos in our downtown cores. And we don’t believe it’s acceptable that people are dying alone in alleyways while government ministers boast about “harm reduction.”

Real compassion means helping people break free from addiction—not manage it forever.

The path forward is recovery. The path forward is treatment. The path forward is caring enough to intervene, not enable.

British Columbia must choose hope over surrender. We urge our leaders to adopt a recovery-first model that saves lives, reunites families, and gives every British Columbian the chance to heal.
